1 Introduction

The Bureau International de Métrologie Légale (BIML) is the secretariat of the Organisation Internationale de Métrologie Légale (OIML), which is an intergovernmental organization working on matters related to legal metrology. The BIML values personal privacy and is committed to the protection of personal data.

This Privacy and Data Protection Policy describes how the BIML uses and processes any personal data it holds.

2 Confidentiality

The BIML does not communicate any personal data to third parties, nor does it give it away.

All BIML employees having access to personal data are obliged to respect its confidentiality.

3 Collection, storage and publication of personal data

The BIML only collects personal data which is necessary to carry out its statutory mission. Personal data may relate to

  • participants in the work of the OIML,
  • participants in meetings organized by the OIML,
  • contacts in organizations in liaison with the work of the OIML,
  • contacts in organizations related to the operation of the OIML (contractors and service providers),
  • current and former staff of the BIML and secondees to the BIML, and
  • other people interested in the activities of the OIML.

The BIML stores personal data securely either electronically or by other means.

In carrying out its statutory mission, the BIML may be led to publish personal data on the OIML website, in meeting reports, in the OIML Bulletin, etc.

4 Amendment and deletion of personal data

Personal data held by the BIML may be amended or deleted at any time by contacting the BIML (privacy[at] When the BIML receives a request to delete personal data, it takes all reasonable steps to ensure that the request is fulfilled.

If certain personal data are deleted, it may no longer be possible to participate in the activities of the OIML.

5 Use of the OIML website

Visitors may access the public pages of websites on the “” domain without providing any personal data.

Some information is gathered during browsing of websites on the “” domain to analyze trends, usage, and to improve the usefulness of the sites.

The OIML website contains links to sites external to the “” domain. The OIML is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such sites.

Private pages of websites on the “” domain require registration and the issue of a username and password. In the case of online voting on private pages, the OIML website does record the user’s Internet Protocol (IP) address.

Users are solely responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of their username and password. They are also solely responsible for any and all activities carried out under their username. Users undertake to notify the BIML immediately of any unauthorized use of their username or any other breach of security. The OIML will not be liable for any loss or damage that may occur as a result of misuse of usernames or passwords, either with or without the knowledge of the user.

6 Use of cookies

Websites on the “” domain may use session cookies to store users’ language preference, and when logged in, the username for that unique session. Websites on the “” domain do not use tracking cookies.
