Agreement between UNESCO and the OIML
The Agreement between UNESCO and OIML was the first such agreement to be established by the OIML. The exchange of signatures took place at UNESCO on 18 February 1960, between Mr M. Jacob, President of the International Committee of Legal Metrology (CIML), and Dr V. Veronese, UNESCO Director General.

This broad protocol of mutual recognition, which is still in place, recognizes the broad alignment between the activities of UNESCO (the UN Organization for Education, Science and Culture) and the technical goals of the OIML.
Over the years there are have been many examples of fruitful interactions, including the proclamation in 2023 by UNESCO of World Metrology Day as an international day.
A much earlier example dates back to 1962, when the 2nd International Conference resolved that UNESCO may seek advice from the OIML during the implementation of major projects relating to metrology, in particular those projects entrusted to UNESCO by the United Nations Special Fund.
