P.O. Box 491
The National Measurement Institute, Australia (NMIA) is not able to accept test results or evaluation reports performed or issued by manufacturers test laboratories (MTLs).
The additional national requirements (ANR) specified in the Table are applicable.
| Measuring Instrument Category |
Name of ANR |
Requirement and additional test procedure reference document |
| R 49 |
Additional water temperature exposure test for T30 water meters only |
The test is specified in clause 7.5A here: https://www.industry.gov.au/sites/defaultfiles/2019-05/nmi_r_49-2.pdf
For the above test, NMIA will accept test results from all non-MTLs under the OIML-CS |
| R 49 |
Additional requirements for DN20 sized water meters |
With reference to OIML R 49-1 clause 4.1.3, the value of Q3 shall be 4.
With reference to OIML R 49-1 clause 4.1.4, the Q3/Q1 ratio shall be at least 200. |
| R 49 |
Pressure range |
With reference to OIML R 49-1, clause 6.4, the pressure range shall be as follows: 0.03 MPa (0.3 bar) to at least 1.4 MPa (14 bar), except for meters of DN ≥ 500, where the maximum admissible pressure (MAP) shall be at least 0.6 MPa (6 bar).
|
| R 49 |
Markings with reference to maximum admissible pressure |
With reference to R 49-1, clause 6.6.2 (i), the required markings are as follows:
Maximum admissible pressure (MAP) if it exceeds 1.4 MPa (14 bar) or 0.06 MPa (6 bar) for DN ≥ 500. |

Price computing instruments (clause 4.14.3) |
In Australia the units of price are dollars ($), interval of price to pay shall be 1 cent and the interval of unit price shall be 1 cent/kg. Price indicators shall be marked dollars or $ and unit price indicators shall be marked dollars per kilogram or $/kg. All calculations shall be rounded to the nearest cent, with the exception that where a total price value is calculated and displayed or printed, an additional display or printout of a total price which has been further rounded (i.e. to the nearest 5 cents, or rounded to the next lower multiple of 5 cents) may be provided, in which case it shall be provided together with a statement of the rounding amount, e.g.
Total Price $1.04
Rounding +$0.01
Price to Pay $1.05
Unit price and price-to-pay shall be indicated with at least one numeral representing dollars and with two decimal places indicating cents (e.g. $0.12, $3.45). Additional non-significant numerals to the left should not be provided (e.g. $03.45 should be $3.45). |
| R 76 |
Non-self-indicating instruments (clauses 6 and 8.1) |
In Australia these instruments are required to be pattern approved - they may not be submitted directly for initial verification. |
| R 76 |
Compatibility of modules (clauses 2.4, 3.10.2.3 and Annex D) |
In Australia, devices that are not incorporated in the instrument may be required to meet alternative or additional requirements such as those of General Supplementary Certificate S1/0B Electronic indicating, summing or printing devices which are interfaced and auxiliary to an approved measuring instrument or NMI M 7 Pattern Approval Specifications for Point of sale Systems. |
